In
"Pearls Before Breakfast," Joshua Bell, a famous virtuoso, plays the
violin for 45min in a subway starting at 7:51am. By most he goes unnoticed.
People pass by in a rush on their morning commute. Only 7 people stopped to
appreciate his playing and only one person recognized him. By the end of his performance,
he had made $32 in change. I think entertainment is a personal choice. The
people who walked by and dropped change in were entertained. I think everyone
has his or her own personal choice of entertainment. I feel that if
people were notified of who he was, they would have stopped and payed more
attention. Also, I feel like people on the subway are hurrying to get to work
and don’t unavoidably have time to stop and listen. Generally I feel there were
many different outcomes of why people didn't stop to enjoy the music, but it
will always be based on a personal preference.
